Spirit is a truly wonderful name for this intuitive and affectionate girl. Found as a stray and facing euthanasia due to overcrowding, Spirit luckily found her loving foster home.
A Well-Trained and Energetic Girl:
* Highly Trainable: Spirit is not your average dog. Beyond the basic commands (sit, stay, down, paw), she excels in real-world situations. On walks, she exhibits excellent recall, returning to your side with a simple correction or when you stop walking.
* House-Trained and Destructive-Free: Spirit is fully house-trained and only chews on her designated toys. She also understands the concept of “inside” and “outside.”
* Playful and Energetic: This active girl loves to play fetch all day long, whether it’s with a ball or a rope toy.
* Protective Instincts: Spirit is a natural watchdog, barking at noises outside but easily calming down. She’s particularly vocal when the doorbell rings, making her a reliable alert system.
Living with Spirit:
* Good with Children: Spirit would thrive in a home with older children who can appreciate her playful nature and high energy levels.
* May Not Be Suitable for Homes with Small Animals: While she hasn’t exhibited aggression towards cats during walks, Spirit showed significant interest in a family of raccoons, suggesting she may not be a good fit for homes with smaller pets.
* Leash Reactivity: Spirit can be reactive on a leash around other dogs, but this behavior can likely be improved with consistent socialization and training.
* Affectionate and Cuddly: Spirit is a true Velcro dog, enjoying cuddles and being close to her human companions. She loves the comfort of the couch and enjoys sleeping in a dog bed in the bedroom.
Ideal Home for Spirit:
Spirit would flourish in an active household with plenty of space to run and play. A home with a yard would be ideal. An experienced dog owner who can provide her with consistent training, socialization, and plenty of exercise and mental stimulation is essential.
