As the accompanied photos and video will attest, Zilla is a beautiful, female, light brown and white American Pit Bull Terrier, who is approximately 14 months old. She is very affectionate, sweet, fun-loving, full of energy, and a world-class cuddler. Basically, everything you would expect from a “nanny dog,” for those who are “in the know” regarding her breed. She gives plenty of licks, and like most pit bulls I have met, she is not very good at giving you any personal space. Meaning, she loves to be held and comforted as much as possible. Zilla is a dog you could spend countless hours sharing a couch with, or even a bed; something I have done every night since adopting her (a mat on our living room floor, actually). She is a quintessential “Velcro dog,” so to speak. Additionally, she loves playing tug-of-war and chewing on dog toys; especially, soft animal toys with squeakers in them. The squeakers do not last long, though, because she has strong jaws. She enjoys going on long walks and doing “zoomies” at our local (enclosed) dog park in Albany, CA (solo and after-hours, only). She would be a great companion for anyone who is active and likes to spend time outdoors.
We do not have cats, but we have another shelter dog who we recently adopted named, Sequoia. Unfortunately, I cannot speak to whether Zilla gets along with other dogs, because we have not had enough time to proper introduce her to Sequoia. We have done several “parallel walks,” which have gone well. But out of an abundance of caution, we have kept the two dogs separated within our home – both physically and visually. Given more time, I am confident that Zilla would get along with Sequoia, but I cannot say for sure. Therefore, I recommend that anyone who adopts Zilla not have pets; and if they do, to introduce them gradually.
With the very notable exception of the incident I have described, above, Zilla is a wonderful dog. I sincerely hope someone better situated to foster (and/or adopt) will take a chance on her. She is a young, healthy, beautiful love-bug, who I believe is inherently non-violent. She needs time to heal from her past traumas, whatever they have been, and she needs further training and discipline. But more than anything, she needs – and deserves – to be saved!
