FAQ
A Community Dog has lost their home in unexpected ways through no fault of their own. Often, rescuers save them from shelter euthanasia lists, but they still miss the person(s) they once called family. The circumstances vary, but we hope that people give Community Dogs second chances at finding a forever home. All the Dogs live in the Northern California Bay Area.
To adopt a community dog, please complete our online questionnaire. This questionnaire is independent of any specific rescue and helps our volunteers match you with the right dog. We will follow up with next steps, including an interview, a home check, and connecting you with a knowledgeable volunteer.
To adopt a dog, you must have stable housing and properly care for and maintain the animal. You must also have enough time for training and walks. Those responsible for the dog will check if your situation suits the specific dog.
We created The Village Bark to meet the need for publicly marketing local Bay Area dogs, offering easy access without requiring logins, 501c3 prerequisites, or encountering paywalls. Volunteers work directly with shelters and local rescues to bring more exposure to dogs in need. We are not affiliated with any specific rescue or shelter, but we do coordinate with many in the Bay Area.
We operate a third-party platform that collects information about local community dogs. Therefore, do not take personal responsibility for the listed dogs or the outcomes of any adoption or foster arrangements. Most importantly, we provide bios and connection resources to facilitate meetings and increase exposure for the dogs in need. Volunteers and/or the involved rescue or shelter must make final adoption arrangements directly. Volunteers exclusively provide the submitted biographies, and these do not reflect the views or opinions of The Village Bark.
